FeatherOS
Free to explore • Open source • Experimental ISO online

Your computer.
Your freedom.

FeatherOS is an open-source operating system project focused on flexibility and the freedom to explore. Explore the experimental installer, inspect the website code, and follow development of the FeatherOS desktop.

Light in spirit.
Open by design.

FeatherOS is an independent OS project. An experimental BIOS installer is available for AMD64. Other architecture images are planned, not released. FreeBSD desktop integration, UEFI and real USB installation still need testing.

Open source

Website code is available to inspect and reuse. OS source and license notices must be prepared separately.

⌘

Flexible

Multiple architecture builds are a project goal, not a one-image-fits-every-device promise.

↗

Free downloads

No purchase required for public release images.

Find your build.

The AMD64 ISO is available as an experimental download, not a verified desktop release. Read the limitations before installing.

⚠️ Release images may erase drives during installation. Back up important files and test in a virtual machine first.

From ISO to first test.

01

Choose the right image

Match the architecture to your hardware and check the release notes.

02

Verify the checksum

Use the published SHA-256 checksum to confirm the file downloaded correctly.

03

Write the image

USB compatibility has not been verified for this experimental ISO. Testing in a VM is recommended first.

04

Boot and test

This experimental image first installs FreeBSD. Installing the FeatherOS desktop requires a separate manual setup stage.
